Sarah Beaudin
Owner, teacher

Born in Québec’s capital region, I have been teaching music to children and adults in the Outaouais region for close to 15 years. Macey’s Conservatory first hired me in 1993 to teach beginner violin and discovery of music classes. Gradually, my class grew to over 40 private students. I also taught group classes and managed all programs offered outside the conservatory in community centres, schools and daycares in the Outaouais and the city of Ottawa. After studying music (violin) at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec de Gatineau (previously Hull) and preschool and elementary education at the Université du Québec en Outaouais (previously UQAH), I taught at the elementary level for the Commission scolaire des Portages-de-l’Outaouais and for l’Académie Jeanne d’Arc.

It was when my first son was born that I reduced my teaching schedule and considered how to balance motherhood and career. After much thought and many requests from parents and daycares seeking music instruction, Variations was created. I work with fabulous musicians and during my free time, I am working on my Masters Degree in Leadership in Education at the University of Ottawa. What a schedule! What fun!

Lorraine Manifold
Musician and teacher

Born in Montreal, soprano Lorraine Hétu lived in Belgium for eighteen years until she took up residence in Ottawa in 2003. Coming from a family of musicians, music has always been an important part of her life: her father was a conductor and a pianist and her mother a clarinetist. At an early age, she studied piano and violin, sang in choirs, and studied music theory and solfège. Lorraine is currently completing a Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Music at the University of Ottawa where she studied music education theories with Gilles Comeau and will graduate in December 2007.

Lorraine’s musical experiences are numerous and include concerts with Les Chœurs de l'Union Européenne, Les Pastoureaux, Voices of Bahá and Orchestra, Bahá'í Gospel Singers in New York City, and, a little closer to home, in Ottawa, the Musica Viva Singers as well as Cantata Singers, and the National Arts Centre’s Ottawa Festival Chorus.

In addition to music, Lorraine holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Vesalius College (Brussels, Belgium).
